WORKING INSTRUCTIONS

Back: Cast on 69 (63-66) sts. with knitting needles No. 61/2 and with the dark grey work 2 rows in elastic rib and 12 rows in ribbed st. 1/1, equivalent to 8 (7-7,5) cm. Cont. with knitting needles No. 8 in knitted st., dec. 3 sts. spaced evenly in row 1, following the chart for the layout of the colours. When work measures 43 (41-42) cm. from the border, equivalent to 56 (54-55) rows, to shape the sleeve holes bind off at the sides 4 sts., then, every 2 rows, 2 sts., 1 st. (for sizes 44 and 46 do not dec. the last stitch). When work measures 14 (13-14) cm. from beg. of sleeve holes, equivalent to 18 rows (17-18) , to slant shoulders cross off at the sides, every 2 rows, 4 sts. twice., 3 sts. twice. (4 sts., 3 sts. twice. - 4 sts. twice., 3 sts. twice.). Bind off the 24 (22-23) remaining sts..

Right-hand front: Cast on 39 (33-36) sts. with knitting needles No. 61/2 and with the dark grey work the border as for back. Cont. with knitting needles No. 8 in knitted st., dec. 3 (1-2) sts. spaced evenly in row 1, and work the stitches as follows: 7 (6-6) sts. in ribbed st. 1/1 (for the buttoning edge) and 29 (26-28) sts. in knitted st.; cont. following the chart for the layout of the colours and, at the same time, make 5 buttonholes of 1 st. and 2 rows in the position shown on the chart. When work measures 43 (41-42) cm. from the cable, equivalent to 56 (54-55) rows, shape the sleeve hole, on the left, as for the back. When work measures 45 (43-44) cm. from the border, equivalent to 58 (56-57) rows, to shape the shawl neck work the first 7 sts. in ribbed st. 1/1 with the dark grey yarn, 1 st. in purled st. with the light grey and the remaining stitches continuing as before; now work as follows: cont. working the first 7 sts. in ribbed st. 1/1 with the dark grey, move leftwise by 1 st. every 2 rows working of the purled stitches for the neck until you have 8 (6-7) purled sts. with the light grey then dec., as a consequence, the remaining stitches, again following the chart. When work measures 14 (13-14) cm. from beg. of sleeve hole, equivalent to 18 (17-18) rows, slant the shoulder as for the back. Cont. on the 15 (13-14) remaining sts. and, to shape the neck, reduce as follows: * work 6 rows normally, in the next row. work the first 12 sts. and stand off the last 3 sts., turn work, work the 12 sts., turn work *, rep. from * to * one more time, work 4 rows normally, then, stand off the stitches.

Left front: Work to match the right-hand front.

Sleeves: Cast on 31 (28-30) sts with knitting needles No. 61/2 and with the dark grey work 2 rows in elastic rib and 14 (12-13) rows in ribbed st. 1/1, equivalent to 9 (8-8,5) cm. Cont. with knitting needles No. 8 in knitted st. , inc. 1 st. in row 1 e follow chart for the layout of the colours. At the sides inc. 1 st. every 6 rows 4 times., 1 st. every 8 rows twice. When work measures 37 (35-36) cm. from the border, equivalent to 48 (46-47) rows, to shape the sleeve holes cross off at the sides 3 sts., then, every 2 rows, 2 sts., 1 st. for 2 (1-2), 2 sts. 3 times, 3 sts. Bind off the 12 (11-11) remaining sts.

MAKING UP AND FINISH

With the tapestry needle embroider all the different parts of the jacket following the corresponding chart and legend for each. Sew the shoulders. Use the tapestry needle to join the sides of the neck and sew the neck to the back of the neckline. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the undersleeves and the sides. Sew on the buttons opposite the buttonholes
