WORKING INSTRUCTIONS

Back: Cast on 90 (93-96) sts. with knitting needles No. 4 and work 10 (10-12) rows in ribbed st. 2/2, equivalent to 4 (4-5) cm. Cont. using knitting needles No. 41/2 in knitted st. When work measures 41 (42-43) from the cable, equivalent to 90 (92-94) rows, to shape the sleeve holes bind off at the sides 4 sts., then, every 2 rows, 3 sts., 2 sts., 1 st. twice. When work measures 20 (21-22) from beg. of sleeve holes, equivalent to 44 (46-48) rows, to slant shoulders bind off at the sides 7 sts. every 2 rows twice. (every 2 rows, 8 sts. , 7 sts. - 8 sts. every 2 rows twice.). Bind off all the 40 (41-42) remaining sts.

Right-hand front: Cast on 50 (52-54) sts. with knitting needles No. 4 and work the border as for Back. Cont. using knitting needles No. 41/2 as follows: 1 border st. (= on front of work slip this stitch, on back work the stitch in knitted stitch.), 4 sts. in ribbed st. 1/1 starting with 1 knitted st., 45 (47-49) knitted sts. At the same time, when work measures 15 cm from the border, equivalent to 34 rows, make 1 buttonhole of 1 st. and 2 rows in the first 2 sts. of the border in ribbed st. 1/1 and, then, make another 3 buttonholes, in the same position, spaced 12,5 (13-13) cm. from each other. When work measures 41 (42-43) cm. from the border, equivalent to 90 rows, shape the sleeve hole, on the left, as for the back. When work measures 54 (55-56) cm. from the border, equivalent to 118 (122-124) rows, to shape the neckline stand off, on the right, 9 sts., then, every 2 rows, 4 sts., 3 sts., 2 sts. 3 times, 1 st. 3 (4-5) times At the same time, when work measures 20 (21-22) cm. from beg. of the sleeve hole, equivalent to 44 (46-48) rows, slant the shoulder as for the back.

Left front: Work to match the right-hand front.

Sleeves: Cast on 48 (50-52) sts. with knitting needles No. 4 and work 38 (38-40) rows in ribbed st. 2/2, equivalent to cm. 16 (16-17). Cont. using knitting needles No. 41/2 in knitted st. increasing at the sides 1 st. every 14 rows 4 times. (1 st. every 12 rows 5 times - 1 st. every 10 rows 6 times). When work measures 30 (31-32) cm. from the border, equivalent to 66 (68-70) rows, to shape the sleeve holes bind off at the sides 4 sts., then, every 2 rows, 3 sts., 2 sts. twice., 1 st. 10 (11-12) times, 2 sts. Bind off the 10 (12-14) remaining sts..

Loops: With Crochet Hook No. 5.00 cast on a chain of 11 st. and, starting from 2nd chn. on the crochet hook, work 1 sc in each chn. Break off the yarn. Make 2 loops.

Belt: Cast on 10 sts. with knitting needles No. 4 in knitted st. for 140 (145 - 150) cm. Bind off the stitches.

MAKING UP AND FINISH

Sew the shoulders. With knitting needles No. 41/2 pick up 100 (104-108) sts. around the neckline (including the standing stitches but not the sides of the buttoning edge) and, for the hood, work in knitted st. for 40 (42-44) rows, equivalent to 18 (19-20) cm.; to round, dec., at the sides of the 4 centre sts., 1 st. every 4 rows 5 (6-7) times (= on the right of the 4 sts. work 2 knit 3 together in back loop, on the left work slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over,). Cont. in purled st. for 4 rows, then close the hood joining with the tapestry needle, the remaining side stitches (= upper centre of the hood). For the pockets, with knitting needles No. 41/2 pick up 26 sts. at the centre of each front, just above the border in ribbed st. 2/2; work in knitted st. for 22 rows, equivalent to 10 cm., cont. in ribbed st. 2/2 for 6 rows, equivalent to 3 cm., then, bind off all the sts. Sew the side edges of the pocket with invisible stitches. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the undersleeves taking into account that the cuff must be turned about by about 8 (8-9) cm. Double the belt and set the edges with invisible stitches. Sew the sides fitting the loops at 30 (30-31) cm. from the bottom edge of the jacket. Sew on the buttons opposite the buttonholes. Fit the belt into the loops.
