Two-colour yarn stitch: work over an even number of stitches.

Row 1: (colour No. 60) 1 knitted st., * 1 slipped st. (= slip the next sts. picking it up to work as purled stitch but keeping the yarn on the plain side of the work), 1 knitted st.. *. Repeat from * to *, 1 knitted st.

Row 2: (colour No. 60) 1 purled st. , * 1 slipped st. as described for row 1, 1 purled st. *. Repeat from * to *, 1 purled st.

Row 3: (pink) as described for Row 1

Row 4: (pink) as described for Row 2

Row 5: (colour No. 60) repeat from Row 1

WORKING INSTRUCTIONS

Back: Cast on 92 (98) sts. with knitting needles No. 41/2 and with the pink and work 8 rows in elastic rib, equivalent to 1 cm. Cont. with knitting needles No. 5 and work: 4 rows work in knitted st., * 24 rows in two-colour yarn stitch, 8 rows in knitted st. with the pink *; repeat again from * to *. When work measures 33 (35) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 116 (124) rows, to shape the sleeve holes cross off at the sides 4 sts. every 2 rows twice. When work measures 20,5 (22) cm. from beg. of sleeve holes, equivalent to 72 (78) rows, to shape the neckline bind off the 36 (38) centre sts. and cont. working the two parts separately; at the same time, to slant shoulders bind off at the sides 10 (11) sts every 2 rows twice.

Right-hand front: Cast on 46 (50) sts. with knitting needles No. 41/2 and with the pink work the ribbing as described for the back. Cont. with knitting needles No. 5 alternate the stitches and the colours as described for the back. When work measures 26 (28) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 92 (98) rows to shape the neckline dec., on the right, 1 st. every 6 rows 10 times., 1 st. every 2 rows 4 (5) times, 1 st. every 4 rows 4 times. At the same time, when work measures 33 (35) from the elastic rib, equivalent to 116 (124) rows, to shape the sleeve hole, on the left, work as for the back. When work measures 20,5 (22) cm. from beg. of the sleeve hole, equivalent to 72 (78) rows, slant the shoulder as described for the back.

Left front: Work to match the right-hand front.

 

 

Sleeves: Cast on 50 (54) sts. with knitting needles No. 41/2 and with the pink work the ribbing as described for the back. Cont. with knitting needles No. 5 work alternating the stitches and the colours as described for the back. At the sides inc. 1 st. every 12 rows 13 (14) times When work measures 49 (52) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 172 (182) rows, shape the sleeve holes as described for the back. After completing the sleeve holes, bind off in one time the 60 (66) remaining sts.

MAKING UP AND FINISH

Sew the shoulders. With knitting needles No. 41/2 and the pink, pick up 144 (152) sts. along the buttoning side of the right-hand front, of the front neckline to the centre of the back neckline; work 6 rows in elastic rib making 4 buttonholes, in row 3, spaced evenly. Graft the stitches with tapestry needle. Trim in the same way the left buttoning side, the front neckline and the other half of the back neckline, without making buttonholes. Join the sides of the border at the centre of the back neckline. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the undersleeves and the sides. Sew on the buttons opposite the buttonholes.
