WORKING INSTRUCTIONS

Back: Cast on 94 (100) sts. with knitting needles No. 41/2 and work 8 rows in elastic rib, equivalent to 1,5 cm. Cont. with knitting needles No. 5 in ribbed st. 2/2. When work measures 52 (54) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 120 (124) rows, to shape the sleeve holes bind off at the sides 4 sts., 3 sts. after 2 rows. When work measures 20 (21) cm. from beg. of sleeve holes, equivalent to 46 (48) rows, to shape the neckline bind off the 36 (38) centre sts. and cont. working the two parts separately, bind off, centrewise, 2 sts. after 2 rows; At the same time, to slant shoulders bind off at the sides 10 (11) sts. every 2 rows twice.

Front: Work as described for back until work measures 45 (46) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 104 (106) rows. To shape the centre opening, divide the work in half and cont. working the two parts separately. When work measures 52 (54) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 120 (124) rows, shape the sleeve holes as described for the back. When work measures 17 (19) cm. from beg. of the opening, equivalent to 40 (44) rows, to shape the neckline bind off centrewise, every 2 rows, 4 (5) sts, 2 sts. 5 times, 1 st. 6 times. At the same time, when work measures 20 (21) cm. from beg. of sleeve holes, equivalent to 46 (48) rows, slant the shoulders as for the back.

Sleeves: Cast on 42 (44) sts. with knitting needles No. 41/2 and work 4 rows in elastic rib, equivalent to 0,5 cm. Cont. with knitting needles No. 5 in ribbed st. 2/2. At the sides inc. 1 st. every 10 rows 5 times, 1 st. every 8 rows 8 times. (1 st. every 10 rows twice., 1 st. every 8 rows 13 times). When work measures 52 (54) cm. from the elastic rib, equivalent to 120 (126) rows, to shape the sleeve holes bind off at the sides 4 sts., 3 sts. after 2 rows. Bind off in one time the 54 (60) remaining sts.

String for tape: Cast on 5 sts. with knitting needles No. 5 work in elastic rib for 145 (150) cm. Graft the stitches with the tapestry needle.

MAKING UP AND FINISH

With knitting needles No. 41/2 pick up 32 (36) sts. along the right hand opening side and work 8 rows in Moss stitch in row 5, make 3 buttonholes of 1 st. spaced evenly; cont. in elastic rib for 2 rows, then, graft the stitches with tapestry needle. Trim in the same way, the left buttoning side, without making the buttonholes. Sew the shoulders. With knitting needles No. 41/2 pick up 78 (82) sts. around the neckline, including the sides of the opening border, work in Moss stitch; after 6 rows stand off at the sides 1 st. every 2 rows 12 times cont. working over the remaining stitches. After dec. pick up the side sts. cast off and cont. over all the sts. in elastic rib for 4 rows; graft the stitches with the tapestry needle. Sew in the sleeves. Sew the undersleeves and the sides. Sew the bottom sides of the opening border overlapping the right on the left. Sew the buttons opposite the buttonholes. Widen 1 st. next to the 4 centre sts. of the elastic rib of the front and, using a safety pin, fit the string for the tape.
